The Waterberg Mountains are home to a number of fine weekend hiking trails. The main advantage that these trails have is their close proximity to Johannesburg and Pretoria. The Stamvrug Trail is situated less than two hours drive from Gauteng.
There are trails of varying lengths. These are the Escarpment Trail (5km), the Game Trail (6km) and the Moepel Trail (8km).
The area abounds in indigenous nature and it is well worth starting early to take advantage of the early morning crispness of the new day. Wildlife is also more visible in the first part of the day.
Along the trail there is opportunities for swimming, especially during the summer.
Accommodation is comfortable with bunk beds and mattresses, warm water showers There are under cover braai areas with fire wood. Ablutions include flush toilets and showers.
We have booked for 12 people but they can take up to 22.
