Proposed Weekend and Longer Hikes

Bill has just undergone a knee replacement operation so will not be at work for the next few weeks. Once he is up and out of hospital and on the way to recovery, he will find out more information about the following hikes which we will then convey to you. 15 – 17 March
Hel’s River, Middelburg
Back Packing
Accommodation varies from chalets to rooms to your own tents. A guide is provided for the first day to assist with crossing one of the pools with a two man boat. This is not the ordinary type of hike . Only 5 km per day but a TOUGH hike.
21 – 25 March (long weekend)
Cannibal Trail
Despite its name Cannibal, the hiking trail, just outside Clarens is an easy two-day hike that’s ideal for weekends and is easy enough for the whole family. And not some grueling hike for hiking enthusiasts as you’d think the name suggests.  
19 – 22 April (long weekend)
Chokka 5 day trail
A 62km slackpack hiking holiday over 4 days/3 nights between Oyster Bay, St Francis Bay and Cape St Francis.
27 April – 1 May (long weekend)
Sungazer Trail, Paul Roux, Eastern Free State
Slack Packing
Experience the beauty of the Eastern Free State on the Sungazer Pilgrimage. Start your journey in Paul Roux Village. There are various routes and duration options.

Giraffe Trail
Merensky Nature Reserve, near Tzaneen
A 32 km 3 day trail with luxury overnight accommodation.
20 – 22 July
Elangeni Trail, Waterval Onder
Back pack or slack pack
The beautiful Elangeni Hiking Trail is situated in Mpumalanga. It winds its way along the Elands River just outside Waterval Boven.
9 – 11 August
Serendipity Trail, Naboomspruit
Back pack
A popular two day circular trail of 12 km the first day and 10 km the second day, in the mountains with superb views, where one passes numerous mountain streams, rock pools and waterfalls. Valleys with views of the Waterberg and indigenous forest.
20 – 24 September
Orange River Rafting
Vioolsdrift, Northern Cape
4 days rafting on the river and sleeping under the stars. All food provided,
18 – 19 October
Buffalo Gorge, Middelburg
Base camp
There are four trails to choose from including a 13 km day trail which passes scenic views of the Avontuur Valley. The other three trails are shorter and pass mainly through indigenous bush and forest. The accommodation is rustic and has the option of taking your own tent.
